Laughter is the best medicine, and an evening of comedy is a perfect way to take a break from the chaos of life. K9s4COPs, a Texas nonprofit organization, is bringing comedians Steve ‘Mudflap’ McGrew and Chad Prather to Texas A&M University’s Rudder Theater on September 15, 2017.

K9s4COPs is an organization that is dedicated to ensuring that every law enforcement officer in need of a police dog, or “K9,” has one that is well trained and ready for action. This local nonprofit pays for the dog’s training, as well as for the dog itself. The founder, Kristi Schiller, was touched by a story she had seen in the Houston news, where a K9 had been dramatically killed in the line of duty. The department in this story unfortunately did not have the funds to replace the K9. Therefore, Schiller took action and decided to start this foundation.

K9s4COPs puts on many events in order to raise money for their cause. “Our tireless fundraising efforts are through events like the K9s4COPs UNLEASHED gala, Klays 4 K9s Sporting Clays Shoot, Paw 4 The Course Golf Tournament and the Minnesota Vikings NFL Football player Brian Robison’s annual Reel ‘Em In Foundation Fishing Tournaments,” said Executive Director Pam Mahoney.

Although putting on events is the main way to promote this organization and to raise money, the organization also works through direct partnerships with donors. “We also write grants, as well as seek corporate donations and sponsorships,” Mahoney said.

K9s4COPS has reason to be proud of the work they are doing. “200 million in contraband is removed from the streets by K9s4COPs gifted K9 Officers,” Mahoney said.

This specific event was sought out by the founder herself. She thought the comedians would be a great fit for a show in a college town. They were easy to reach out to, since both Prather and McGrew are always wanting to give back.

Chad Prather is known as the ‘Political Cowboy,’ who never shies away from new challenges. His entertainment goes farther than just comedy. Prather mixes motivation and opinionated segments into his shows. His influence is seen mostly through social media, and he is the host of Ride Television Network’s “It’s My Backyard.”

Steve ‘Mudflap’ McGrew, a nationally recognized comedian, is also known as “The Hellbent Southern Gent.” He has been featured on Comedy Central and recently released “One Sick Puppy,” the latest of many comedy CD’s on iTunes. McGrew also hosts two popular podcasts, “Remasculate” and “Wrinkled.” As if that is not enough success, McGrew has opened shows for many rock and country artists and holds 3 Country Music Awards.

Do not miss out on this fundraiser that will have you laughing until you fall off your chair as well as benefit the purchase and training of K9 officers that, in the long run, can save lots of lives. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and tickets can be purchased at boxoffice.tamu.edu or K9s4Cops.org.
