Exploring the world might be an infeasible dream for many these days, but what if the world came to you? Well it’s your lucky day, it’s here!
Come excite your senses Saturday, October 27, at the Brazos Valley Worldfest, taking place at the Brazos County Expo Complex from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Designed to promote and celebrate the international diversity and heritage of the Brazos Valley, this festival is truly the world in your backyard!
Cultural displays from Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East and more will be present. A multitude of performances ranging from dance to song to storytelling will be attracting crowds to one of several main stages.
The World Stage will present primarily dance and song performances, including Green Bamboo Dance Studio, Aggie Fenghua Dance Club, Flying Balalaika Brothers and Los Vikings Mariachi. Who wouldn’t want to see Fenghua dance and a mariachi band on the same day?
The Heritage Stage will contain a bit more variety, featuring Native American Storytelling, MUSA Studio interior and architecture from Moldova, Maroon Steel with their steel pan ensemble, Prakriti, which is a form of Indian philosophy and much more.
After wandering about the merchandise tents, go check out the Rhythm Path Drum Circle, which features 125 drums being played throughout their set. Las Rebeldes de Houston Latin Horse Riders will be in the arena trotting about, once in the morning and again in the afternoon. With events and performances and food from around the world, it will truly be a day full of new and thrilling experiences.
And yes, there’ll be plenty of international cuisine to fill up on, familiar and unfamiliar, so don’t be afraid to try something new! We all share a love for Dixie Chicken and Layne’s, but this is the place to branch out and explore new flavors and spices. For all those who have a sweet tooth, a new addition to the festival this year is the international candy shop. Just wait til you taste the Brazilian Coffee Candy or the Indian Pan Pasand!
