Summertime means scads of fun for kids, but it can also mean quite a bit of whining for you. “When can we? Why not? Aw, Mom! I’m bored!” And especially in August, they’re full of tremendous amounts of energy as they anticipate the next school year, so get them out of the house and burning off those end of summer blues at the Childrens’ Museum of the Brazos Valley’s Moovin’ and Groovin’ camp, August 12 through 16.
Moovin’ and Groovin’ is a sports and exercise camp for kids to focus their energy through physical activity. Marketing Director Ashley Kortis says, “At the end of the summer, kids are full of sillies, so this is their chance to shake out those sillies and have a great time.”
The camp starts with some free time in the museum where campers can go through the exhibits before the program. After free time, the moving begins, where kids will dance, stretch, and even hula the week away with guided movement games and exercises led by visiting athletes. Kortis says, “Every day there will be special guests, whether its a sports team or a dance troupe that will lead the kids in different kinds of activities.”
Your kids will love getting to play with their friends and meet some of the local athletes they look up to. It might even inspire your kids to come back and introduce future campers to sports and physical activity! The fun doesn’t end when camp is over for the day because campers will be given a take-home activity that will challenge their creativity, imagination and maybe even their science skills.
Camp runs from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and, as usual, early drop off begins at 8:00 a.m. and late pick up ends at 5:30. For the whole week, the camp costs $150 for Standing Ovation Members and $200 for Clapping Hands Members and non-members. If your kids only want to go for a day or a couple of days, the Museum offers a $50 daily rate. To get your kids registered for Moovin’ and Groovin’, please visit http://bit.ly/2YnZqyc!
