Cody Joe Hodges will be playing at Lakeside Icehouse on September 19. Hodges identifies more as an “outlaw” country artist, but it’s his ability to bridge the gap between classic country sound and modern lyrics that appeals to fans across the board. He wrote his first song during his freshman year at Texas A&M. After graduating in 2006, Hodges moved to Nashville where he began performing on Broadway. After a short stay in Music City, he moved back to Texas and joined the Army.
Being in the Army did not keep Hodges from playing music, he earned a spot on an All-Army group called “Harmony in Motion.” There, he and the group began to play across America for venues and private military events. After he was discharged from the Army, Hodges spent a few years working in the power industry with his father. While in the power industry, he created a band called “The Lineman” with a few fellow Aggies.
By 2013, Hodges decided that it was time to pursue a full-time music career once again. Breaking out as a solo artist, he signed his first recording contract in December 2013. He would release his debut album, “The Good Stuff,” the following November. Hodges reached the #24 spot on the Texas Regional Radio Report with his inaugural radio release “Getting Back to Country.”
In 2014, Hodges had the opportunity to sign with a Sony independent label out of Nashville, Lamon Records, for his new project—a 4-track EP that he released last May. He was recently named the 2015 Male Rising Star of the Year by the Country Music Association of Texas.
