TexasCountry star Curtis Grimes is set to return to BCS on September 11 at Hurricane Harry’s.
Grimes. A Texasnative hailing from Gilmer, Grimes will kickoff his run of shows in BCS to coincide with his release of his new EP “Bottom of the Fifth.” This show will also serve as his CD Release party. Grimes is consistently striving to put himself in front of the country music elite. In 2008, country “King of the Road” Kenny Chesney launched his Poets and Pirates tour. For that particular tour, Chesney ran a contest called “The Next Big Star.” It was a competition for local bands to compete against each other in order to win an opening slot for a Chesney show. Grimes won the Austin competition and opened for Kenny Chesney at the Frank Erwin Center in May 2008. Landing this opening gig for Chesney helped propel Grimes’ career forward and he began to place himself in front of massive audiences.
Three years later, in 2011, Grimes was fortunate to receive an invitation to audition for the NBC hit show “The Voice” in Los Angeles. While he did not particularly impress Blake Shelton with his rendition of Shelton’s hit “Hillbilly Bone,” he did strike an interest in another judge. Cee Lo Green saw something special in him and selected Grimes for his team where he would advance to the quarterfinals before being eliminated. This provided even more exposure for Grimes, “The Voice” averaged 15 million viewers weekly.
Since winning “The Next Big Star” competition and competing on “The Voice,” Grimes has had the opportunity to open for many Texas Country greats like Jack Ingram, Eli Young Band, Aaron Watson, and many more. It has also given him the chance to expand his fan-base and play shows outside of Texas. This had led to a few instances where he’s been invited to open for Nashville country artists like Justin Moore and Leann Rimes.
Before he found success in music, Grimes was a star pitcher at Centenary College in Shreveport, Louisiana. It was when he transferred to Texas State in 2005 that he began to realize his dream of becoming a country musician. The San Marcos music scene had a lasting impression on Grimes and he has since found great success in the Texas music scene. Grimes’ other musical influences range from country superstars George Strait and Alan Jackson, to Chris Young and Texasnative Clay Walker.
The opening act for Grimes will be the group Prophets and Outlaws. They will bring their Southernrock style infused with a little bit of soul and blues to the Harry’s stage. They are nice contrast to Grimes’ vibe. The Prophets and Outlaws released their EP “Texas Home” back in May.
