Have you been yearning for the tracks that you grew up with? Songs from bands like Blink 182, Fall Out Boy and Death Cab for Cutie? You are in luck, because Logies on Campus will begin hosting “Emo Mondays” on the first Monday of each month.
They are looking to fill a common void in the music and nightlife scene. There are always country nights, EDM nights, hip-hop nights, etc. However, there is seldom a night for fans of rock, punk and emo music to enjoy.
This event is not an isolated idea but rather, a part of a movement. There has been an overall revival of late 1990s and early 2000s music. Bands such as Dashboard Confessional and Blink 182 are playing sold out shows across America. Spotify also has several curated playlists of nostalgic throwbacks.
“Emo Nights” began in Los Angeles, and now are being held in Dallas, Atlanta, Nashville, New Orleans, Seattle and many other venues that have finally tapped into millennial nostalgia. They are even being held internationally in London and Toronto.
“Mainstream music is great, but sometimes you really crave the music from back then. It is relatable in a way that today’s music isn’t. Especially when you aren’t feeling your best,” said Texas A&M student Sakshi Goel, who attended an “Emo Night” in Dallas last year.
This long-awaited Renaissance is exciting to many people who do not see what they like in the current nightlife music choices. Emo music continues to live on and be an outlet for emotions that can be difficult to articulate. Nothing quite captures the feeling of being 14, angsty, and wanting someone to know.
Logie’s on Campus will be hosting the event from 9 p.m. to 12 a.m., and the setlist will be curated by DJ Bear. They will be playing several throwback artists such as My Chemical Romance, Panic! At the Disco, Paramore, Fall Out Boy, Cobra Starship, Simple Plan and many more.
The next Emo Monday will be held March 5, so don’t forget to take a trip down memory lane.
