Known throughout BCS for over a decade as the home of the local creative community, The Village Art 979 in Downtown Bryan has been hosting bimonthly jazz nights for a few months now. It’s a natural spot for an event like Jazz Night because of owner Kristy Petty’s dedication to local sourcing and developing a community for the arts to thrive. Petty says, “I’ve always tried to make a space for live music to live in Downtown Bryan. I love original music and love supporting local artists.”
The Village has a packed schedule of events every week, but the coveted Friday slot is reserved for jazz. Jazz Nights are hosted by Chris Hollar, a seasoned studio drummer and the Director of Jazz Ensembles at Texas A&M, and Jacob Appelt, a professional bassist and local jazz performer. According to Petty, “The idea behind Jazz Night is that Jacob & Chris invite different jazz musicians to join them every other week. Many of the musicians that join them are A&M students or out of town guests.” So when you show up, you’re not only experiencing great music over fresh and tasty food, you’re supporting your local art scene.
The next performance is on May 24th at 7:00 PM. There’s no cover charge, though customers are encouraged to tip the musicians.
