Jon Wolfe is set to make his Hurricane Harry’s return on September 4th. Wolfe, Oklahoma native, has had an interesting path into the world of country music. He began in the oil business, after being transferred to Houston from Chicago. One Alabama concert later, Wolfe found himself in Austin pursuing his dream to become a singer-songwriter.
After a self-released album in 2004, Wolfe signed his first record deal with Midas Records Nashville. A few years later, in 2010, Wolfe performed at South by Southwest and released his second studio album “It All Happened in a Honky Tonk.”
After his showcase at South by Southwest, he formed his own record label, Fool Hearted Productions. Wolfe was able to sign a record deal with Warner Bros. Nashville. Warner then planned to release “It All Happened in a Honky Tonk” with three new songs.
After the release of the deluxe edition, Wolfe left Warner and signed with Tone Tree Music. He promptly began to work on his third record. In March of this year, he released “Natural Man.” The album debuted at number 25 on the Billboard Top Country chart.
In the midst of changing record labels, Wolfe has been lighting up the Texas charts. He’s had six consecutive Top Ten singles: “Let A Country Boy Love You,” “That Girl In Texas,” “I Don’t Dance,” “It All Happened In A Honky Tonk,” “The Only Time You Call” and “What Are You Doing Right Now.” These Top Ten singles have made Wolfe a hot commodity on the Texas and Red Dirt music scenes.
Wolfe’s most recent release, “Natural Man,” combines his classic country sound with modern, edgy radio style of country. Produced partly by Wolfe himself, the album was recorded at Nashville’s Westwood Studios and Ronnie’s Place. Wolfe refers to the 13-track set as “a concept that I have wanted to record for a few years.”
“This album stretches me as an artist and as a vocalist, while staying true to who I am,” Wolfe says. “I have known how I wanted it to sound, and how I wanted it to look for some time now. I’ve been visualizing this album for such a long time, and it feels great to finally bring it to life!”
For the show at Harry’s, special guest Justin Van Sant is also making his return to Aggieland. Van Sant, a native of Houston, was named by the Houston Press as “Best Country Act” in 2012 and then again in 2013. Van Sant has an impressive performing resume, from the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo’s Hideout tent to the famous Blue Bird cafe in Nashville. Van Sant has opened for many Texas Country greats, Wade Bowen and Charlie Robison to name a couple. Van Sant released his first single “Destination Me and You” this past June.
Doors at Harry’s open at 9 pm on September 4th. Tickets can be purchased in advance at Cavendars, Aggieland Outfitters (on University Dr.), and Southern Jewlz (on Harvey Rd.) or at the door the day of the show.
