Interested in art with mystery, vibrant color combinations and layered textures? These are all elements that can be found at the SEAD Gallery and Bookshop’s Multi-Artist Exhibition in Downtown Bryan from March 21 through April 17.
The new exhibit, featuring works by John Krajicek, Dawn Winter, and Cameron Sands, explores the abstract and transformative, with each artist offering their own unique pieces to display.
John Krajicek is a painter located in College Station and a professor at Mays Business School at Texas A&M. His field is Business Communication, so he focuses on teaching writing skills and public speaking. His creative talents were satisfied with music and poetry until his 50’s, when he decided to take up painting. Working mostly with acrylic paints, John considers his paintings to be abstract expressionism. He says “I might be blown away by the technical prowess of, say, a hyperrealist painting, but it is always the mystery of an abstract painting that haunts me, compels me, and stays with me.” John’s love for the mysterious and abstract shines through in his beautiful pieces.
Dawn Winter is from Austin, Texas. She had no real interest in painting until visiting an Art Museum in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where her passion for art was born. After that, she began experimenting with paint and letting her curiosity lead her. She uses acrylic and palette knives to create textured and layered pieces. About her paintings, she says, “Often times, my paintings explore the interactions between bold and muted colors, other times creating a sense of depth through a variation of a monochromatic color selection.” Since her first experiences with art, she has won awards in art contests, has had her art featured in multiple galleries, and has worked with interior designers. Dawn’s interest in layers and textures make her paintings truly unique, and they must be seen in person to be truly appreciated.
Cameron Sands began experimenting with paintings after working a summer job at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston. After graduation from The University of Texas in Austin, he enrolled in painting classes at University of Houston. His works have been featured in many exhibits and have been part of several private and public collections in Texas and other states. Cameron considers his work to be a personal reflection on the idea of transformation, and says he is “drawn to the subtle and unexpected ways that we can adjust our perspective.” Cameron truly is a talented artist, and his pieces are bursting with color and life.
Located inside Downtown Bryan’s Historic Federal Building, the SEAD Gallery and Bookshop will host an opening reception for the exhibit on March 21 from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. During the reception, wine and hors-d’oeuvres will be provided.
