The Spirit of Texas Festival, or SoTxFEST, is taking place Friday, March 23, through Sunday, March 25, here in Bryan-College Station and will serve as a local showcase of Texas.

The festival, which was first held in March 2017, was designed to highlight the diversity of Texas, showcasing the music and food from across the state that makes Texas so great. Last year’s event brought in roughly 25,000 people, and festival planners expect that number to double in 2018.

There are plenty of activities for the entire family to enjoy. The kids will enjoy the Future Stars of Texas Community Stage, which will be home to Texas kids showing off their talents. Burgeoning experts in dance, martial arts, singing and cheering will perform before a live audience, representing the future of Texas talent. The Idea Village will also be a hit with the younger crowd, offering interactive learning opportunities in chemistry, physics and geography, just to name a few.

SoTxFEST will offer a wide variety of food, including the $10,000 BBQ Cook Off. Sanctioned by the International Barbecue Cookers Association, festival attendees are invited to join the biggest and baddest BBQ cook off in the Brazos Valley, even going as far as helpinging declare the grand prize winner. The cook off will take place Friday and Saturday.

If the barbeque isn’t enough, join SoTxFEST as it attempts to set the Guinness World Record for the longest ice cream sundae on Saturday. Festival staff are planning a one-mile long sundae, complete with all the fixings, to topple the current longest sundae record, held by Nashville, Michigan. Food will continue to be celebrated on Sunday, as the $10,000 Curbside Smack Down Food Truck Competition takes place. Award-winning food from 50 trucks will be offered to festival goers, who will help choose the winner.

Attendees should be sure to bring their wallets with them, for who can resist Texas artifacts? A trading market will be held all three days, featuring more than 100 vendors from across the Lone Star State, offering plenty of items to choose from.

SoTxFEST will take place throughout the Wolf Pen Creek Park area. Admission to the event is free. Come out and enjoy the diversity and greatness Texas has to offer.
