For the first time ever, the Spirit of Texas Festival will provide the Bryan/ College Station area with a lively, fun-filled experience. Beginning March 2 at Wolf Pen Creek, this four-day event aims to bring people together through entertainment, food, and Texas pride, and the festival also benefits local charities including K9s4COPs and the Ronald McDonald House.
The event kicks off with live music and plenty of educational opportunities for children and adults. The Idea Village provides children with a unique learning experience by featuring award winning academic road shows from Texas A&M University in subjects such as chemistry, veterinary, and physics.
For adults, there is a Pinterest Fair where you can stop by for a 30-60-minute session for guidance on how to make Do It Yourself projects come to life. Visitors are also encouraged to stop by the Trading Market where they can find original antiques, collectibles, and treasures from across the state and country.
This year, the festival aspires to break multiple Guinness World Records. Organizers plan to take back the world record for World’s Largest Chili (a title currently held by North Dakota) by cooking a 5000-pound pot of chili. That equates to approximately 2000 bowls of chili! In addition to breaking the World’s Largest Chili Record, the festival also plans on breaking the record for World’s Largest Two-Step with 2000 dancers and the record for World’s Largest Frito Pie, which is 1400 pounds. Everything is bigger in Texas, and the Spirit of Texas Festival is no exception.
In addition to entertainment events, the festival will also hold various contests and shows including a car show, bike show, and food truck contest, all of which will hand out cash and prizes for winners. Other contests include a BBQ cook-off, a pie contest, and an ambassador pageant that will choose a Miss and Mr. Spirit of Texas to represent the festival throughout the year. Judging for the art contest will take place on March 3 and prizes will be awarded on the 5.
There is still time to become a volunteer, judge, sponsor, or vendor for the event online where there is also a schedule of activities for each day of the festival. The Spirit of Texas welcomes visitors to stop by and celebrate their love for Texas.
