The City of College Station has reared some considerably influential and groundbreaking people. Among them are “The Father of the Green Revolution” Norman Borlaug, former Secretary of Defense Robert Gates and “Modern Family” actor Rico Rodriguez. On Friday, October 26, residents can welcome another hometown hero, William Clark Green, as he performs new hits from his album “Hebert Island” at Hurricane Harry’s. Green describes his upcoming concert as a “homecoming,” happily explaining that his teachers and friends from A&M Consolidated High School always come and support him at concerts in town.
An experienced musician, Green began writing songs in the eighth grade. “I learned to play guitar at St. Mary’s Catholic Church,” says Green, in reference to the historic chapel at the corner of Church Avenue and Nagle Street. Upon graduating high school, Green enrolled at Texas Tech University, where he studied Agricultural Economics.
Throughout his collegiate career, Green continued to pursue his musical endeavors, and at age 22, released his first studio album. Fast forward to 10 years later, and Green has released his fifth studio album entitled “Hebert Island.” The album’s title is given in homage to Green’s grandmother, whose maiden name was Hebert (pronounced A-Bear).
When asked what sets “Hebert Island” apart from his previous albums, Green said, “The vocals are more present” and that this album includes “3-4 part harmonies, which I’ve never done before.” Stimulated by ordinary, mundane experiences, Green says he was “inspired by everyday life and the crazy world we live in” when writing “Hebert Island.” He prefers not to classify his music by styles, saying that he is “not limited by genre. It’s up to the audience to decide whether my music is rock and roll or country or folk. I don’t like to be boxed in to one particular genre.” Rather than sticking to one particular musical category, Green chooses to just “create music that amplifies song writing.”
His first single from “Herbert Island,” “Hit You Where It Hurts” has gotten over a million streams on Spotify. During its debut week, “Herbert Island” was the number 1 record on the iTunes Country charts.
