Garrett Wareing, an up-and-coming actor with roots in College Station, is quickly making a name for himself.
After discovering his love for acting at Oakwood Intermediate School, he and his family packed everything up and made a dramatic transition to Los Angeles. The move seems to be paying off.
Wareing quickly found himself in the Hollywood headlines with a lead role in “Hear My Song” (originally titled “Boychoir”) where he shared the screen with Dustin Hoffman and Kathy Bates. It didn’t take long before Wareing was catching people’s attention again when he landed a roll in one of the biggest blockbuster movies of the summer, “Independence Day: Resurgence.“
We sat down with Garrett for an exclusive interview to talk about his Texas roots, his upcoming movie “Puberty” and his ever-evolving acting and modeling career.
MW: Your career has really taken off this past year with your big breakout rolls. How has the impact of these blockbusters changed your life and family?
GW: Being in the entertainment industry has only made my family stronger. Being able to do what we love together has made this journey so incredible, and I am so grateful for everything that we have achieved together.
MW: Now that you are in Los Angeles full time, what has been the biggest difference between living in California versus living in Texas? Do you prefer one place over the other?
GW: Living in California has been amazing, from meeting people on similar journeys to mine, and to making friends from all around the globe. Being where I grew up, Texas will always have a special place in my heart, and I always look forward to returning. I certainly miss all the great food in Texas, so that makes my return visits even better.
MW: Outside of acting, what do you like to do? If you weren’t acting, what would be your dream job?
GW: Outside of acting, I am passionate about the world and everything it has to offer. I love exploring, and experiencing nature. If I weren’t acting I would still love to be in the entertainment industry, and directing is something I have a great interest in.
MW: What is a normal day like on set when you are filming a movie?
GW: Every set is different, but one common factor are the families you make on set. The cast and crew make the process so much fun, and getting to know everyone is one of my favorite things.
MW: Who are some people in the entertainment industry who inspire you?
GW: I really feel inspired by my peers in the classes I go to and the events I attend. Everyone I meet works so hard to achieve their goals, and that, to me, is extremely inspiring.
MW: Variety recently released an article announcing your newest role in a movie called “Puberty.” Can you tell us anything about the movie or your role in the film
GW: In my new film “Puberty,” you can look forward to seeing very psychedelic visuals and peculiar things. This film will be like nothing you’ve seen before, and I can’t wait to share it with you
MW: What advice do you have for someone who might be interested in pursuing a career in the entertainment industry?
GW: Pursuing a career in the entertainment industry, like any career, has its challenges, and definite advantages. Don’t give up, and keep striving for what you love, it takes a team, and I wouldn’t be anywhere without the support and hard work behind me provided by my amazing team. Above all, hard work does pay off.
