The legacy of rock music continues to roll with time, as bands like the Foo Fighters keep the genre alive and interesting. Former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl lead the group of six (Pat Smear, Nate Mendel, Taylor Hawkins, Chris Shifett and Rami Jaffee) to the top of the Billboard charts with their latest album, “Concrete and Gold.”
The American band keeps their new track list consistent with their trademark sound, but they also feature many musical guest appearances, such as Justin Timberlake and Paul McCartney. In their ninth work, the Foo Fighters received musical advice from pop producer Greg Kurstin which helped to incorporate new tones into their anthemic pop-rock, while focusing heavily on their songwriting. One of the album’s songs, “Run,” begins in minimalistic acoustics that then grow into louder, harsh tones that are finally dramatized into raw throated metal.
In preparation for their upcoming tour, the Foo Fighters released an animated short film to promote “Concrete and Gold.” The musicians discuss why they selected to work with Kurstin and why they decided to collaborate with other musical celebrities. With their new album outweighing their previous works, some rock and roll lovers are questioning whether it’s possible for a tenth album to live up to the hype.
