If you’re an Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice fan, make sure you see this show! This year marks the 50th anniversary of their first to be produced musical, “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.” Here in BCS, it will be brought to the stage by The Theatre Company, April 19 through May 5, and will make you feel as if something 2D has become 3D!

The musical is based on the biblical story of Joseph told in the book of Genesis. If you’ve not heard that narrative, it’s quite a whirlwind of love, betrayal, family drama, hope and forgiveness. Taking its cue from the image of Joseph’s coat of many colors, the show involves a multitude of colorful lights, costumes and music. This show is definitely a treat for the whole family. With only a few lines of spoken dialogue, the rest of the performance is filled with song. So be prepared to be serenaded by this Tony-award winning musical!

Originally named “Joseph,” it was first presented as a 15 minute show in 1968 to little favor. But talent will rise, and in this case, it skyrocketed. By 1971, when Lloyd Webber was only 20 and Rice just 23, they were already releasing another musical you may be familiar with: “Jesus Christ Superstar.”  Now 50 years later, the revised and renamed “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” is still delighting audiences and bringing an amazing story to life. With the range of colors being tossed about and astounding melodies, you’ll surely leave having experienced a rainbow of emotions.
