SEAD Gallery & Bookshop is bringing in the new year by welcoming Arnold LeUnes as its Jan. 24 Author Talk guest.“Stamping Out Ignorance in Aggieland” and “Okie Boy, Texas Aggie” are two books in which the Texas A&M University sport psychology professor discusses the refreshingly authentic experiences that inspired these publications and his life.
LeUnes’ service as a U.S. Army Officer in the Adjutant General’s Corp and his 52-year involvement with the department of psychology at Texas A&M serve as a testament to his profoundly ornamented professional experience, which is discussed at length in his books.
“Stamping Out Ignorance in Aggieland” is a memoir that details LeUnes’ tenure at Texas A&M through a recollection of memories and sentiments, many of which concern teaching students, traveling abroad with fellow Aggies, in addition to coaching and officiating softball for 35 years. LeUnes hopes “to amuse, educate, entertain, and perhaps occasionally antagonize the reader” with his perspective on life as he has experienced it in the last half-century.
“Okie Boy, Texas Aggie” serves as a precursor to “Stamping Out Ignorance in Aggieland.” LeUnes reflects upon his childhood in Dewey, OK and Texas City, TX, his undergraduate career at Texas A&M, his master’s and doctoral studies at the University of North Texas, and his service in the U.S. Army. Described by LeUnes as a “coming of age” book, it is divided into three sections- his childhood, his undergraduate career at Texas A&M University and his time spent in the U.S. Army.
Community members are invited to participate in this free, intimate gathering at SEAD Gallery & Bookshop in Bryan on Jan. 24 from 6-8 p.m.
