The story of H-E-B began in the small Texas town of Kerrville where a woman named Florence Butt invested $60 in the business. After fifteen years of work, she hands the business over to her son Howard E. Butt where he would lead the company to become one of the largest grocery chains in the nation.
In the hundred and five years that H-E-B has been in business, the company has had many great leaders, one of those being President and Chief Operating Officer, Craig L. Boyan. Graduating from Harvard (Cum Laude) in Economics and was a member of the Harvard Crew; he then went on to Columbia Business School where he received his MBA. Boyan joined H-E-B in 2005 as Chief Strategic Officer after serving as an advisor with the company for two years before joining. Craig keeps busy by being a member of the Board of the Food Marketing Institute (FMI) and the Board of Trustees for Texas Biomedical Research Institute. He serves on the Board of Trinity University, UT Health Science Center and Wellness Coalition along with being Chairman of the Board for Junior Achievement of South Texas and General Campaign Chair for the 2015 United Way Campaign.
It comes with no surprise that Craig L. Boyan will be receiving the McLane Leadership in Business award that is given annually to a man or women who is dedicated, a problem solver, and plays a major role in businesses across the nation. Along with accepting his award, Craig L. Boyan will be giving a lecture on how different factors helped to shape H-E-B throughout the years. The reception will be held on October 7 from 5:00 p.m. to 5:20 p.m. in the Annenberg Presidential Conference Center with the lecture to follow from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. For more information on Craig L.
