Every Texan knows that the rodeo is the true sport of the state. This week welcomes friends and family to come enjoy the Brazos Valley Fair and Rodeo, with local live music and much more.
The 5th annual fair that takes place in Bryan each year consists of rodeo festivities, including mutton bustin’, a livestock show, and carnival. Like other events hosted by the City of Bryan, this weekend was initially created to fund academic grants and scholarships for agricultural research and local educational events. Additional profits fund growth and promotion of the city. The previous two years have brought in more than 500 heads of cattle, various competitions, and an average of 17,000 attendees.
The expo offers student and livestock internships each year to promote agricultural awareness and volunteer opportunities. The involvement of friends and family brings the community together to popularize Brazos County.
Events began last week with seven days of baked and canned goods contests, followed by performances and livestock exhibits. October 21 launches events like bareback riding, barrel racing, roping, and hay hauling. A mechanical bull and petting zoo will also be open to attendees, along with the carnival, contests, and shopping venues.
Many of the same events will be held on Saturday, so if you miss Friday, it’s not a big deal. There will be a tailgating area for the A&M vs. Alabama game. Concert lineup includes Jason Boland and the Stragglers on Friday and Steve Wariner on Saturday, both hosted by Bud Light Stage Entertainment.
The expo provides numerous ways to involve attendees by volunteering and participating in competitions such as the Junior Livestock Show, Youth Western Art Show, and a photography contest. Art and photography from previous winners will be displayed at the galleries.
Tickets are available on the Brazos Valley Fair website and from rodeo volunteers. Prices vary for the concerts, carnival, and general admission, and parking is free for general public on the fair grounds. Early bird specials and season tickets are also available online. So gather family and friends for a weekend of true Texan festivities and remember that proceeds benefit the Brazos County communities.
