Every child possesses talent in some area. Does yours like art? Science? Maybe they’re destined to be a star on the stage someday. Well, this summer you can find out where their true passion lies with the STARS Summer Camp!
Hosted by the Education Department of the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum, the STARS summer camp offers all kinds of unique activities that will keep your little bundle of possibilities fascinated and entertained. From cartoon drawing, role-playing, art animation, and making a science model move (a model that was used on the space station!), there are endless opportunities for your child to have fun and discover what they love the most!
STARS is one of the many Exploring History Summer Camps, and Summer Camp Coordinator Nathan Vogt says he is honored to coordinate it for the first time this year. “So many great events are planned, from going through the museum, creating crafts, to learning aspects of engineering, to just playing games,” Vogt says. “There is something for everyone, and parents can be sure we are helping their children to keep up brain-stimulating activities during these summer months.”
“STARS” stands for (STudio ARt and Science), and the camp will include STEAM elements (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math). Think art is a little out of place in that list? As an art teacher during the school year, Vogt says art relates more to the other subjects than you’d think! “For you to have a great STEAM program, you have to have each component interwoven, like a cable wire, not as separated cables,” Vogt says. “When done correctly, this brings out the best in students or campers and helps prepare them for the 21st-century job opportunities.”
The camp is for children ages 7-11, and it runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily at George H.W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum. It begins Monday, July 8 to Thursday, July 11. Can’t make it this week? The next opportunities are from July 15 through 18 and July 22 to 25. On top of that, when you register your child, he/she will receive a free T-shirt and backpack!
You’ll need to pack them a sack lunch, two drinks, and two snacks each day. Fees are $30 day or $120 for the whole week. For those of you George and Barbara Bush Foundation members, or those of you with two or more little campers, enrollment will only be $110.
