The arts are all around us. We find ourselves are constantly listening to music, watching movies or doodling whatever comes to mind. Many people find that they enjoy spending their free time browsing through record shops and going to art museums. Well for all of you aspiring photographers or photography lovers, “First Friday with Laura Pasket” is quickly approaching.
SEAD Gallery and Bookshop is hosting Texas photographer Laura Pasket during April’s “First Friday.” Getting her start with her father’s old film cameras, Pasket is a self-taught photographer who devotes her free time to capturing wildlife, landscape and more. She travels throughout both Texas and Illinois, photographing wildlife as a hobby. She always aims to photograph subjects in their own habitats, without disturbing their natural behaviors and practices.
Pasket was born and raised in Rock Island, Illinois and now resides in the small town of Anderson, Texas. Pasket’s childhood vacations to National Parks like Yellowstone National Park, Rocky Mountain National Park and many others inspired her appreciation and love of nature and photography. Pasket’s mission is to go beyond the knowledge of exposure, pixels, and technology. She aims to simply find the beauty in nature and wildlife.
Pasket’s photos have been published in Birdwatching Magazine, and she currently has pieces hanging up at the Navasota City Hall building. Her memberships include the Texas Professional Photographers Association, North American Nature Photography Association, National Audubon Society, Brazos Audubon Society. Pasket also currently holds the position of Secretary/Treasurer for the Brazos Valley Photo Club.
The SEAD Gallery is located in the Federal Building at 216 W. 26th Street in Historic Downtown Bryan, Texas. The SEAD Gallery provides a unique downtown venue for arts and cultural exchange. Through exhibits and events, they seek to encourage innovation and discover new ways to understand and positively impact local communities and the world.
Pasket’s pop-up show, “A Look Through My Lens,” will open on April 6 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the SEAD Gallery and Bookshop in Bryan, Texas. For more information and a schedule of events, visit www.seadgallery.com.
