No one could have predicted the mass amount of damage that would come with Hurricane Harvey. No one could have foreseen that one of the most populated cities in the U.S. would have been nearly submerged. There was nothing anyone could do, but now there is.
The Grand Stafford Theater in Bryan, Texas is hosting a “Hurricane Harvey Relief Benefit Concert” on Sunday, September 17 at 7pm. The concert will feature four bands from the Bryan/College Station area, whose members all have ties to greater Houston. Performers include The Ex-optimists, an indie/noise rock band influenced by the likes of Nirvana and Sonic Youth; Mutant Love, a punk/pop band; Electric Astronaut, a psych grunge band with rock roots influenced by Game of Thrones; and LUCA, an indie rock band.
A minimum $5 donation is requested at the door in order to attend, but concert attendees may donate more to the fund if they wish to do so. All proceeds collected will benefit the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund, which was created by Houston mayor Sylvester Turner, and the Greater Houston Community Foundation. The foundation is dedicated to extending philanthropic impact with donors. The foundation fully supports their donors in a variety of ways, including offering solutions for the most complex of needs.
Hurricane Harvey left behind devastation when it left behind broken homes and broken hearts. You may not be able to rebuild a house, but you are capable of restoring some hope back into the hearts of Houstonians by supporting some local music.
