Higher. Faster. Stronger. All words used to describe the newest addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). But following the release of “Captain Marvel,” you can add exciting, funny and hopeful to the list.
The film documents Carol Danvers’ journey to becoming Captain Marvel through a split timeline, with flashbacks to previous events that the present Danvers doesn’t fully remember or understand. With the help of Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), Danvers must both regain her memories and master her powers to stop an intergalactic war.
“Captain Marvel” introduces us to one of the most powerful beings in the MCU, telling an origin story for both Captain Marvel and Fury, while also setting the stage for upcoming MCU films.
Following the devastating events that took place at the end of “Avengers: Infinity War” and the “Ant Man and the Wasp,” audiences everywhere wondered exactly who would help our heroes defeat Thanos in the upcoming Avengers sequel. Everyone knew Captain Marvel would serve a major role, thanks to the end credits scene from “Infinity War.” But her movie debut answered several questions many MCU fans have had for years, as well as promising to deliver some powerful punches as Marvel transitions into new storylines.
While not the best film in the MCU franchise, “Captain Marvel” definitely entertains and successfully introduces fans to what could be the next leader of the Avengers. It’s a must see as we anxiously await the premier of “Avengers: Endgame.”
