Red Bull Chariot Race

By Annabeth Reeb

Red Bull has switched its claim from giving you wings to helping you build chariots! Okay maybe not, but Red Bull is putting on their annual chariot race at Texas A&M this Friday – November 13.

As one of the top ten leading engineer schools, its no wonder the Aggie-style chariot race is always such a success. Teams of three students from various different organizations around campus design and build a chariot to race around a haystack track. Organizations competing this year include SAE, Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, Big Event Leadership, TAMU Wakeboarding Team, BYX, YoungLife, and many more. The event is the perfect opportunity for engineer majors, and just creative students from other majors, to test their knowledge in a fun, competitive way.

There is more than one way for teams to win this competition: fastest time, most enthusiastic, and of course, the race winner. The ultimate winner will receive a $300 feast at The Republic. The races will be judged by representatives from two involved organizations, along with the Paper Wings winner from last year.

The event will begin at 2pm with chariot viewing, followed by the first races at 3pm. After the bracket-style tournament is complete, attendees are requested at the Chariot Race after party at Cedar Lane. The event itself will take place at The Barracks. If you aren’t quite as excited about engineering and chariots as the participants, don’t worry, as the Freestyle Underground Street Dancers (FUSD), will be preforming, along with Emcee as DJ.

Overall, the event will be a day of great Greek fun, with the Gods and Goddesses showing off their chariots to all.
