Country artist Sam Riggs, with special guest Shane Smith & The Saints, will be at Hurricane Harry’s on December 9 with the show beginning at 10pm. As the semester winds to a close, kicking back with good music after finals will be the best way to wrap up 2016.
Singer-songwriter Sam Riggs is a Florida native who moved to Austin in 2007 to pursue his dreams in the music world. Riggs now has two full-length albums, one released in 2013 and another in 2016, to his name, as well as two EPs.
His first album, “Outrun the Sun,” was released in October of 2013. The album had two singles reach the Top 10 on the Texas Music Chart, as well as earning Riggs the Artist of the Year award at the first Texas Magazine Texas Music Awards. The album was wildly successful and started Riggs off strong to his musical career.
His most recent album, “Breathless,” is composed of 11 tracks. Riggs calls it the story of his life pushed into one album. The album debuted at number 12 on the Billboard Country Albums Chart and number 168 on the Billboard 200.
The album sold 3,800 copies within its first week of release, following suit with his other musical endeavor.
Shane Smith & The Saints also hail from Austin, fitting more into the folk- rock category than country. Although, front man Shane Smith believes that the group ventures into roots music as well, a branch of country music. He believes that this is a kind of music that simply brings one back to their roots. The group has two full-length albums to their name: “Coast,” which was released in January of 2013, and “Geronimo,” which was released in September of 2015. The group feels that “Geronimo” is the better of the two, operating as a mix of the sound that they’re aiming for as a group.
Shane Smith & The Saints have played many big name festivals including South by Southwest in Austin, Chillifest, and the Larry Joe Taylor Fest.
Doors for the show will open at 9pm. Shane Smith & The Saints will open the show at 10pm, followed by Sam Riggs at 11pm. Tickets can be purchased online, at Cavenders in College Station, or at the University Dr. location of Aggieland Outfitters.
