Halloween BarkBy Adrianna Zampieri

Get your sweet tooth ready because Halloween is just around the corner! It’s the designated day for dressing up, scaring strangers, and eating lots and lots of sugar (because calories don’t count on Halloween). But don’t limit your sugar intake to store-bought, prepackaged candy. Instead, sink your teeth into something homemade and frighteningly delicious.

Halloween Bark

This recipe from “Family Fresh Meals” is loaded with a ton of goodies that people of all ages will be quick to devour like brain-hungry zombies. It’s salty, sweet, crunchy, and creamy all combined to make the perfect bite.

What You Need:

  • 12 – 14 black and orange Oreo cookies broken up into large chunks
  • 1 cup pretzels, broken into pieces
  • 1 lb almond bark or white chocolate melts
  • 1 1/2 cups candy corn
  • 20 – 30 candy eyeballs
  • 1 – 2 tbsp of Halloween food sprinkles

Here’s How to Do It:

  1. Melt the almond bark or white chocolate melts according to the package.
  2. While the chocolate is melting, cover a large cookie sheet with wax paper. Spread the broken cookies, pretzels, and 1 cup of the candy corn onto the prepared cookie sheet.
  3. Drizzle the melted chocolate over the cookie mixture, using a spatula to coat evenly.
  4. Quickly cover the wet chocolate with the remaining candy corn, candy eyeballs, and Halloween sprinkles. Place the cookie tray into the refrigerator until the chocolate is firm.
  5. Break into small pieces and enjoy!

Bloody AppleBloody Apples

Everybody loves a chocolate-covered apple on Halloween. “WonkyWonderful” has added a creepy twist to this classic staple, and it is sure to delight your taste buds while satisfying your vampire-like craving for something just a little bit bloody.

What You Need:

  • 4 large apples
  • 12 oz white chocolate melts
  • 2 tbsp shortening
  • 4 bamboo apple sticks
  • Wilton’s red sparkle gel

Here’s How to Do It:

  1. Thoroughly wash and dry apples. Then insert the bamboo sticks.
  2. In large measuring cup, microwave chocolate and shortening for 1 minute. Stop and stir vigorously half way through until all chocolate is melted and smooth.
  3. Dip apples in melted chocolate and transfer to baking sheet lined with wax paper.
  4. Refrigerate apples 5-10 minutes or until chocolate sets.
  5. Drizzle the red sparkle gel on the top of the apples. Use a wooden stick to gently spread gel and manipulate the “blood” drips.
  6. Refrigerate the apples to prevent gel from dripping further.
  7. Let sit at room temperature 10-15 minutes before serving to allow chocolate to soften, and enjoy your bloody treat!
